Privacy

Last updated: September 2026.

Hosting

ATLAS is published through Netlify. When you access it, Netlify may process technical data required to deliver the website, such as IP address, browser, system, request date and time, and security logs.

Device location

ATLAS requests geolocation only after a person presses “Show my area”. The coordinate is used locally to orient the globe and is not displayed, stored or shared. Refusing permission does not block the experience.

External sources

The application directly queries NASA EONET, USGS Earthquake Hazards Program, USGS Volcano Hazards Program, Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping, Copernicus EFFIS, Natural Resources Canada · CWFIS and NOAA IBTrACS from the browser. It also loads snapshots or derivatives generated locally from INPE · Programa Queimadas, INGV · Osservatorio Etneo, NSW Rural Fire Service, Emergency Management Victoria · VicEmergency, Queensland Fire Department and Copernicus GDO; the browser does not directly query these six sources. Requests to external providers queried from the browser may communicate standard web-connection data to them, including the IP address. Consult their official policies for details of their practices.

Local storage

ATLAS may store on the device the choice not to ask for location again during the session, recent feed content and files required for PWA operation. It does not create accounts or user profiles.

Analytics and cookies

ATLAS does not currently include third-party analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If these are added in the future, this page will be updated before activation.

Sharing and installation

The Share function uses browser capabilities or copies the URL. PWA installation depends on the browser and operating system.
