About ATLAS
ATLAS — for all is a global experience that presents active natural phenomena through a 3D Earth globe, geographic pulses, visual cards and open-data sources.
ATLAS focuses on wildfires, earthquakes, cyclones, official flood-related mapping activations, volcanic activity and a territorial meteorological-drought layer when official records are on-going. It does not duplicate the everyday climate variables covered by CLIMA TERRA.
Two related experiences
CLIMA TERRA — for people interprets temperature, ultraviolet index, humidity, wind, rain and air quality to support people in their daily lives. ATLAS expands the view toward active phenomena at planetary scale.
How it works
The globe differentiates the daylight and nighttime hemispheres according to UTC and an astronomical approximation of the Sun’s position. Rotation is calculated at real speed. Active points emit pulses; a card remains open for about twelve seconds and then folds away while the pulse remains available.
Discrete search enables exploration by country, territory, region, category or specific active situation. When a country is selected, its outline is highlighted and the interface distinguishes phenomena occurring inside it from those that may affect or relate to it.
